The Battle of Athens, Tennessee, 1946

I had no idea that this had ever occurred in America: The Battle of Athens, Tennessee.

On August 1-2, 1946, some Americans, brutalized by their county government, used armed force as a last resort to overturn it. These Americans wanted honest open elections. For years they had asked for state or federal election monitors to prevent vote fraud (forged ballots, secret ballot counts and intimidation by armed sheriff's deputies) by the local political boss. They got no help.

"The government, with its institutions, belongs to the people who inhabit it. Whenever they shall grow weary of the existing government, they can exercise their constitutional right of amending it, or their revolutionary right to dismember or overthrow it."

Skynet Tacos are Here!

So this is how it begins, eh? Automated robotic drones delivering tacos to you wherever you are?

Do the drones come equipped with, like, lasers and stuff? If you don't pay, do you get Terminated?

More importantly, when were these tacos made: yesterday or sometime next week?

I, for one, welcome our new robotic, taco-delivering overlords. /oblig

Now I'm hungry...

Filling In the Gaps in the Trayvon Martin Case

If all you saw was news reports from the MainStream Media concerning the tragic death of Trayvon Martin last month, you were led to think that this was a white-on-black, racially-motivated hate crime.

And if that is what you think, you've been had. Lied to, on purpose. Bamboozled. Befuddled. Bewitched, bothered and bewildered.

First off, despite his name, George Zimmerman isn't white. Secondly, Trayvon Martin was not a child, as his picture indicates: he's a 6' 2" young man of 17 with a history of legal entanglements.

Nice Deb has a roundup of just a few of the facts that were withheld from you as this case broke into a national story.

It also appears that some stories, you know, real ones of interracial hate crimes, just aren't as important as the ones that attract professional racists like Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson to a sleepy Florida town.

In case you also didn't know, the New Black Panthers have issued a $1M bounty for anyone who captures Zimmerman, despite him not being charge with a crime. This breaks numerous laws, but where is Eric Holder's Justice Department? Oh, that's right, they don't prosecute crimes against the NBP.

Hans von Spakovsky, a former counsel to the assistant attorney general for civil rights, said sworn testimony from an ex-DOJ lawyer indicated that Justice staffers were told there would be no voting rights cases filed against minorities.

Silly me.

That leaves the State of Florida to uphold the many laws broken by the NBP.

Let’s start with solicitation to kidnap. In announcing a reward for the seizure of Zimmerman, the New Black Panthers may have violated Florida Code 787.01. It makes it a felony to “by threat, confining or abducting, or imprisoning another person against his . . . will without lawful authority with intent to . . . terrorize.”

May have?

Let's hope that we'll see real justice served to those who would break the law, shall we? And while we're at it, why don't we wait until all the facts are in before we rush to judgement?

What say you, Al? How about you, Jessie?

The Case for Banning Sharia Law in America - Why Are We Even Discussing This?

This is a sad statement about today's America: The Case for Banning Sharia Law in America.  (h/t to Creeping Sharia.)

American law is based on our Constitution and absolutely nothing else. Those who wish to abide by other laws are free to leave. Those who wish to follow any foreign law are traitors, including any judge who issues any ruling based upon any other law besides the Constitution. No world court has any influence inside this Soverign Nation.

I recognize no authority other than the Consititution.

I can't believe we're even talking about this.

Testing, testing...is this thing on?

Ladies and gentlemen, please to not adjust your InterWebz.

I'm playing around with the design. Hopefully the white text on the black background is easy to read, although if you've clicked on a link already, it might appear quite dark.

I might move the furniture around a bit more. It's nice to change things up every once in a while.

Obama's Emergency Preparedness Diktat

You need to read this:

Executive Order - National Defense Resources Preparedness

There is one word you should never see in any US Government document: All.

As in...

"...all forms of energy;"

"...all forms of civil transportation."

"... all other materials, services, and facilities,"

Basically, this EO appears innocuous enough, until you start gaming the possible scenarios, especially the one where this administration starts viewing the American People as a threat. If you think that's something your government would never do, think again.

Infinite Oil?

Here's an idea that's been circulating around the Intertubes for a while, and if you haven't heard about it, please click on this American Thinker link and prepare to be surprised.

What if Oil and Natural Gas are Renewable Resources?

I've often wondered a couple of things about the theory that oil was made from compressed dinosaur. First off, if we're drilling hundreds or thousands of feet below sea level in places that have pretty much always been covered in water, how did these zillions of Dino's get there? What were they eating? Has any Dino DNA ever been found in oil?

This idea needs further exploration.

MSM Media Hypocrisy 101 - High Gas Prices Then and Now

I've been waiting for this montage of MSM coverage of high gas prices under W versus O...

Can you notice just the slightest bit of difference in the coverage from the Progressive Pravda?

I knew that you could.

(Shamelessly stolen from Ace of Spades HQ, thanks.)

Sprint Bails Out of LightSquared Infrastructure Deal

As all eleven of you know, I've been following the LightSquared story for some time. While their idea of high-speed wireless transmission is a good one (and one I think will be realized soon), their tactic of encroaching upon the "quiet" space near the frequency used by the Global Positioning System is very dangerous to the military and the general public, something I've pointed out here and here.

Thankfully, LightSquared's plans to interfere with with the GPS band appears to be nearing its end. Cellular giant Sprint appears to pulling out of their agreement with LS to share their infrastructure.

That sound you hear is the top of a Guinness being opened in celebration. Cooler and more rational heads have prevailed. And this administration's crony socialism has been slowed somewhat.

And now for something completely different...

My Crimson Tide basketball team takes on Creighton today at 1:40 on TBS. I had a gig last night, and while unwinding this morning, B'Gal and I were watching ESPN's SportsCenter where one bracketologist (whose name escapes me) had Alabama advancing to the Final Four.

Bless him.

How Does Obama Call Us Lazy When We Can't Get Up Because His Boot is on Our Neck?

Recently, Americans were called lazy by President Obama (warning. This video is from way back in November of 2011, hopelessly dated by Internet standards. There's even some guy on there named Rick Perry.)

There's a reason for this: the regulations emanating from this administration are choking the ability of businesses to operate and adding billions and billions of dollars to the cost of doing business.

This post from Sweetness and Light illustrates the problem: Obama is Top Regulator in US History.

Abstract [of the Heritage study]: During the first three years of the Obama Administration, 106 new major federal regulations added more than $46 billion per year in new costs for Americans. This is almost four times the number—and more than five times the cost—of the major regulations issued by George W. Bush during his first three years. Hundreds more regulations are winding through the rulemaking pipeline as a consequence of the Dodd–Frank financial-regulation law, the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, and the Environmental Protection Agency’s global warming crusade, threatening to further weaken an anemic economy and job creation

Read the whole thing and click on all the links. It's not long.

I'd really like to get up, Mr. President, but I can't.

Is that gum on the bottom of your boot, Sir?

Florida Democrat Party Shows its Disrespect for the Flag

If you had any doubt about the patriotism of the radical Socialists who have infested the Democrat Party in the past decade or so, doubt no more.

This should make your blood boil.

Just so you know,

The State of Florida makes it a first-degree misdemeanor for anyone to mutilate, deface, burn or trample upon the U.S. flag, the Florida state flag or the flags of the Confederacy. The law also forbids the use of such flags for advertising or publicity purposes. [Fla. Stat. Ch. 876.52]

So in addition to breaking the law, Nancy Hulbert, Democrat Chair for Lake County, Florida, never bothered to check if what she wanted to do was legal, but she seems more than happy to call the police when she's confronted by the Veterans. And her elitist attitude when asked if she bothered to check with "higher ups" was equally condescending: "There is no higher up in Lake County" than her.

That's good to know.

And that snarky ending to the story should say, "This whole thing could have been avoided if Ms. Hulbert had realized that she was committing a blatant act of disrespect to the millions of Americans who have died to preserve the freedoms that our flag represents."

Unemployment Stagnant at 8.3%, But That's Not the Whole Story

They're popping the champagne corks in the White House and in MSM newsrooms across the country today. The new unemployment figures are out and show a whopping decrease from the previous month's figure of 8.3% to the wonderful new number of, um, 8.3%.

Whee?

If all you do is listen to what you're told by the MSM, you'll think that happy days are here again. Nothing could be further from the truth. The bad times are still with us: millions of Americans are still out of work or underemployed (like a certain Boy you all know and love), gas prices are approaching record highs, everything in the grocery store has doubled in price in the past four years, yoots cannot find jobs of any type, the list goes on.

Here's a bit of analysis of the numbers this administration and it's communication division, the Progressive Pravda expect you to believe, courtesy of The American Enterprise Institute.

Even if it were a legit number, the 8.3% February unemployment rate, released today by the Labor Department, would be simply terrible—and unacceptable. It would still extend the longest streak of 8%-plus unemployment since the Great Depression. The U.S. economy hasn’t been below 8% unemployment since Obama took office in January 2009. And back in May 2007, unemployment was just 4.4%.

But, unfortunately, the true measure of U.S. unemployment is much, much worse.
1. If the size of the U.S. labor force as a share of the total population was the same as it was when Barack Obama took office—65.7% then vs. 63.9% today—the U-3 unemployment rate would be 10.8%.
2. But what if you take into the account the aging of the Baby Boomers, which means the labor force participation (LFP) rate should be trending lower. Indeed, it has been doing just that since 2000. Before the Great Recession, the Congressional Budget Office predicted what the LFP would be in 2012, assuming such demographic changes. Using that number, the real unemployment rate would be 10.4%.

(Emphasis theirs)

As Insty would say, read the whole thing, it's not long.

More Viralness - the Video the TSA Doesn't Wan't You to See

I found this online this afternoon and thought y'all might be interested. It's over at the Cato Intitute and was made by engineer Jonathan Corbett. It shows just how ineffective these new cancer backscatter X-Ray machines that we've all paid for really are.

Since I haven't flown in a while, I'm not familiar with all the new methods of groping security currently in use at our airports. If the TSA has replaced the old metal-detectors with this technology, they have made a big, expensive mistake. Which would be about average for them.

If we had the right people in power, you know, ones who understood the threat we all face from terrorists, and who had the will to confront the enemy and apply some old-school remedies to them, we wouldn't have to use these things. We also wouldn't be treated like threats when we clearly aren't. We would actually be treating bad guys like the enemy instead of wanting to just give them a hug and trying to talk to them.

But of course, these days, everything is backwards.

Let the Vetting of Obama Begin

If you haven't heard yet, the first of Andrew Breitbart's videos showing a certain President's past will be shown tonight on Sean Hannity's show at 9:00pm EST on the Fox News Channel.

Here's a tidbit.

And also, if you haven't been there yet, Brietbart.com has relaunched their website. It now incorporates all of the Big Sites (Journalism, Hollywood, Government and Peace) under one banner.

Y'all, this is getting serious and we all have work to do. This wasn't done four years ago, and the country has paid a terrible price: high unemployment rates (with the U-6 rate at 15.1%), real inflation  around 8%, record numbers of Americans living in poverty and on food stamps (I know I sound like a broken record, but I'm trying to hammer this home), high and rising gasoline and fuel costs that increase the price of goods, which is everything, you should know the rest by now.

I can't impress upon you how important it is for us to regain control of our country by finding, supporting, and electing people who share our goal of a smaller, less costly and less intrusive government. If we don't, today will looked upon as the "good old days," as things will only get worse.

Who wants today to be the "new normal?"

We don't have to accept this out-of-control government that we've inflicted upon ourselves. It is within our power to change it into the kind of government we want, with a robust economy, opportunity for all and greater freedom for us and for the world.

But if we sit on our hands and do nothing, we are in trouble. So get up and get informed. Start by watching Hannity's show tonight, educate yourself and your friends, talk to people. Persuade, cajole if you have to, but always do so in the spirit that abounds in our great country, namely neighborliness and patience. Remember you're speaking to a fellow citizen and that we're all in this together.

Don't be angry, be strong and cling to what you know is right in your heart.

If you do that, then you'll always say the right thing.

The Real Face of Our Enemy

You'll love this.

It's a video from a forum held inside the Florida capital building last week.

Can you say "Domestic Enemy?"

Can someone in Washington please explain to me why this guy hasn't been stripped of citizenship and deported? It seems very clear that he doesn't like our country, so why is he even here?

Why do we tolerate his racism and sedition, not to mention his outright lies? How long do you think any one of us would last if we started this type of diatribe against the government and society inside a muslim country?

If no one else will say it, I will: Mr. Bedier, leave us in peace.

Rest in Peace, Andrew Breitbart

We on the right are saddened by the loss of Andrew Breitbart. We have lost a champion, a visionary, and a happy warrior. A man whose flame burned brightly and all too briefly.

I admired him from afar, as did many in the conservative blogosphere. He was respected for his honesty and passion, and loathed by those on the left for those same reasons. He had an unwavering dedication to the truth and spoke it at all times.

My condolences to his family. May God give you strength and comfort.

There's not much I can say that hasn't been said already, and more eloquently, by those who were fortunate enough to have known or met him personally. So, in the spirit of the great circle of life here on the Internet, I'll just post a link or two...

Sunshine State Sarah has a good roundup of links, and she's inviting them.

Greg Gutfeld and his crew at FNC's The Five share their memories of Andrew Breitbart.

Just so you don't forget what AB and we're fighting against, here's a list of Communist Goals. These are no secret, as they were read into the Congressional Record back in 1963. Here's Goal Number 14.

Infiltrate the media.

So, the question naturally arises, "What do we do now?" The answer is, "Let a Warrior's Life and Passing Lead Your Righteous Indignation."

What Would Breitbart Do?

We will mourn for a while, and then we shall take up his sword and continue the fight. He is gone, but he shall return, and he shall be millions.
