Crimson Tide Win Back-to-Back National Championships...

...in golf.

Golf?

OK, I'll take that. After the disastrous end to last season's Iron Bowl, this helps soften the blow of the loss to Auburn.

Roll Tide!

Classy Tampa Bay Bucs Sign Paralyzed Rutgers Player Eric LeGrand

Some good news for a change.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Wednesday announced the signing of former Rutgers football player Eric LeGrand to its 90-man offseason roster.

Said Schiano: "Leading up to the draft, I couldn't help but think that this should've been Eric's draft class. This small gesture is the least we could do to recognize his character, spirit, and perseverance. The way Eric lives his life epitomizes what we are looking for in Buccaneer Men."
Congrats, Coach. And Eric, too.

I'm Back, Tanned, Rested, and Ready...

...to take another blog-cation. My birthday was nice, had many well-wishes from friends, played a good gig that evening and it took three whole days to recover.

My liver is glad it's over.

Anywho, my posts will be a bit less frequent, as I have a lot to do around the hacienda cleaning up for the holidays. I know I've said that before, but this time I mean it. Familial duties and all that.

So, here's a few tidbits until I can find my muse once more. I know I put it somewhere...

I was watching the ESPN talking heads yesterday before Tim Tebow's first NFL start as quarterback for the Denver Broncos against the Miami Dolphins and the hostility towards him was palpable for reasons I've yet to fathom. Petty and nitpicking is what it really was. There was even a segue from a commercial that went, "Tim Tebow, love him or hate him..."

That got me thinking: exactly what did Tebow do to cause anyone to hate him? Did he beat up his wife? Did he get in a fight in a bar? Has he shot anyone in a fight in a bar? Caused any dogs to die?

Did I miss something? Or are the sportsheads just a wee bit jealous and maybe scared that Tebow's a better man than they are?

RIP Dan Wheldon. Prayers go out to your wife, children, and family.

The OWSers are getting more and more repugnant as time goes by. Arrests, garbage everywhere, no sanitary facilities, no permits. And they compare themselves to Tea Partiers? I want the GOP to hang these infantile protesters around the neck of every Democrat who embraces them, just to provide a real contrast with the rest of America.

Dumb, stupid and ignorant is no way to go through life. They know less than nothing about how the world works, how capitalism should work, nor how much of anything works. I'm reminded of the scene in Talladega Nights where Texas Ranger points a gushing garden hose inside the neighbors' open window while yelling, "Anarchy, anarchy! I don't know what it means, but I like it!"

Oh, I guess I should put a link to something in here somewhere. This is encouraging, World Power Swings Back to America. They need to give us another year before that happens in earnest, so we can rid ourselves of the Socialists, Marxists and Progressives that have infested the left and Washington. Many politicians have to be defeated in November of 2012, like Nancy Pelosi, Barney Frank, Dianne Fienstein, Olympia Snowe, and their RINO squish enablers like Lindsey Graham and Mitch McConnell. Even then, we'll need some time to repeal everything that Obama has done. That'll take a while, but do it we much.

I've laid out my plan, albeit in bits and pieces here over the years, but it's imperative that we undo everything that the left has instituted in Washington before we can start to think about leading the world again. And by leading, I mean by example. We should retrench and rebuild our nation, which has been gradually destroyed from within by our enemies, and let the rest of the world do as it pleases. We have enough natural resources to become truly self-sufficient.

We should do it as soon as possible. Our very survival may depend on it,

Sports in Space? Why Not?

Growing up, I had dreams of becoming an astronaut. If you’re of a certain age, you probably had those same dreams, too. You looked up to those magnificent men in their flying machines and wanted to be one of them.

You knew you had to do: study the hard sciences, be disciplined physically, emotionally, and mentally, be the best person you could become and then, maybe, you could join the ranks of the most technically advanced pioneers the world has ever known. Shepard, Glenn, Armstrong, Aldrin, and many others were names you knew and revered.

You wanted to be like them and boldly go where no one had ever gone before.

Today’s final launch of Shuttle Endeavor is sad for many reasons, not the least among them is the fact that we’ve seemingly lost our national zeal for exploration. Not us as a people, or a race. Humans have an inner thirst for new and untried things to do and places to explore.

That was once an integral part of what made us Americans. We did new things. We proposed new ideas and new ways of doing them. We had leadership that embraced true technological progress, progress that resulted in the greatest elevation of mankind the world has ever known. The technological advancements from our space program gave us new products and innovative ways of looking at the world. Satellites, computers and Tang were but small part of the Space Age. Science fiction became facts of everyday life.

Alas, we no longer have that type of leadership in Washington today. It’s not that our national quest for adventure has waned; those we send to Washington today seem more enamored with petty things through which to gain power and control, not a grand vision of mankind elevated. We are diminished as a result of sending such small-minded people to act on our behalf.

Speaking of our space program in the past tense is depressing as hell.

We must now depend on our biggest competitor for our access to low Earth orbit. Russia will now assume the duties that we once did, servicing the Space Station that we developed, financed and put into orbit. They recently raised their price for their services, unsurprisingly. A lack of competition will do that.

So, while we ponder our next national move towards space, what will we do in the meantime? The moon is still waiting to be explored, as is Mars. We have the technology (to coin a phrase), but not the foresight or political will to continue our trek to the stars.

I have an idea.

Let’s create a sport for space. SpaceSport, we’ll call it for now. There could even be more than one of them.

It’s new, exciting, and would generate quite a bit of money and open up low Earth orbit to fans as space tourists. This would be all kinds of good.

And, it’s doable without any government money.

Just think of the possibilities. A worldwide television market. Merchandising on a truly grand scale. A permanent, private presence in space. Technological innovations that would truly make space flight as routine and inexpensive as jet travel. There’s more, the only limit would be our imagination.

Already, several private companies are poised to capitalize on space tourism with short-duration flights. Elon Musk, Sir Richard Branson, Burt Rutan and others are leading the way in the privatization of space. Expectations are that businesses will start offering rides within a couple of years, perhaps sooner.

What could accelerate that better than SpaceSport? The absence of gravity will present its own challenge. Initial plans could be for a small, well-cushioned court for the players, a uniform with strategically placed patches of Velcro with which to remain stationary if desired (or maybe stay attached to a fellow player). A ball similar to a soft type of kickball could be used (although there’s no weight in space, there’s still mass – if you hit your head on something, it still hurts). Perhaps a large cylindrical tube with round goals at either end into which a ball could be thrown or banked to score. TV cameras could be placed in players’ helmets to show the action. Advancements in virtual reality could enable fans to see what players see, much like in-car cameras in motorsports, only better. The market for video games alone would be enormous. Possibilities abound.

Eventually, there could even be an arena with live spectators, who knows?

This could be the next step in space travel and exploration – sports.

Alinsky Sting Targets Rush Limbaugh

Now that Rush is no longer a member of the group attempting to buy the Rams, he is free from the confidentiality agreement and can tell his side of the story.

We can believe one of two scenarios. Either a group of experienced sports investors dropped the ball or Limbaugh was set up. Add in the nebulous existence of George Soros as a member of the group and you have the perfect situation with which to publicly bludgeon a well known conservative. This is how an innocent (and what should be a private) sports transaction becomes political. Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it and ridicule it mercilessly.

Something sounds fishy about this entire affair. How could they not have remembered the firestorm from his comments about the media's adoration of Donovan McNabb that resulted in his being fired from ESPN for offering a simple observation? Did they not do any research at all? And what does the screaming and lying coming from liberal sports writers and announcers say about them? Is the Keith Olberman model of political insanity uniform among them? It sure seems to be.

It is indeed a sad day when partisan far-left radical politics is so pervasive that it enters the (formerly) benign refuge of sports.

UPDATE!
Well, that didn't take long. The backlash has begun.
UPDATE!!
Rush has the final say on the glaring double standard and the use of the race card against him by professional racists.
