Shouldn’t We Fear Global Cooling More Than Warming?

This Monday, I thought I’d spare you the economic gloom and doom that I normally bestow upon you on this first day of the workweek.

Well, not really, here’s a chart you should see: The Obama Presidency by the Numbers.

No, today I want to explore a point that one of my fellow Morons made a couple of weeks ago in a thread over at Ace’s Place and mentioned in the title. Maybe we’re being told the wrong thing in this whole “global warming” debate.

Snark I much.

There’s no doubt in my mind, and in the minds of others who doubt the entire notion of mankind’s ability to change the global climate, that we’re being lied to in order to be manipulated politically and to act against our own best interests. You need not be a climate scientist to understand what’s going on, all you need is a healthy dose of skepticism and your own common sense.

Let’s set aside the fact that some in government are relying on a group of people who haven’t the slightest idea what the weather will be one month from today to tell us what the climate will be in one hundred years, like a certain governor from a state whose name rhymes with New Jersey, one Chris Christie. He seems perfectly content to abdicate his personal responsibility to question this subject. If he were the kind of politician we need, he’d be reaching his own conclusions based on his own knowledge and intuition.

We’re being preached at, normally on a beautiful, picture-postcard, Chamber of Commerce endorsed day that the Earth is in “crisis” and we’re to blame. Every action we innocently take as we go about our daily life is causing irreparable harm to the planet and we need to revert to some past technological time and forego our modern lives in order to stop it.

But what if “global warming” actually served to work in favor of mankind? Bear with me for a moment.

Wouldn’t a warmer global temperature be better suited for growing crops? Wouldn’t that help us feed a growing world population by increasing the amount of productive land?

I’m just asking here.

What are we so scared of? Al Gore seems to be the political equivalent of Chicken Little, upon whose head an acorn fell, causing said youthful chick to fear something for no reason. Except in Gore’s case, he wanted to make a lot of money from it through his very dubious carbon exchange program, which has since proven (thankfully) to be a bust.

Another thing that these global scaremongers seem to forget is man’s ability to adapt to changing circumstances. While we could adapt to cold, we’d still find ourselves at the mercy of the elements whichever way the climate went, warmer or colder. But wouldn’t we be better off if the Earth did get just a little bit warmer? Personally, I think more farmland and more favorable growing conditions would be a good thing for everybody.

It’s rather difficult to plow frozen land from what I understand.

The Great Wall of Washington

There is a wall in Washington. It’s well constructed and apparently impenetrable. It’s nowhere and everywhere, invisible yet pervasive. This wall has no name, but is well defined. It isn’t meant to keep out invaders. This wall is designed to keep those in our current administration separated from reality and common sense.

The wall is evident in many ways. Take the current turmoil in the Middle East. In times past, America was somewhat insulated from the effects of political unrest half a world away. But this New World Order that’s being constructed, often by persons unknown and unelected by us, we’re being shepherded into a global economy that just plain isn’t working.

Nowhere is this more evident that at the gasoline pump. As you’ve no doubt noticed during the past week or two, gasoline prices are going through the roof. Now think back on all the times you’ve heard politicians say we need to reduce our dependence on foreign oil supplies. Compare that to the reality of what you’re paying today.

That, gentle reader, is The Wall.

I can think of no other reason for high gas prices than the effect of this Wall. To each and every sentient citizen, the answer is extremely simple: we should be actively and aggressively harvesting our natural resources. Do you think that if we were doing what we once did, we’d be suffering at the pump?

By now, we should all know the answers as to why we aren’t pursuing a national energy policy of drilling and refining American oil. For generations, we’ve been prohibited from doing this by environmental groups and their handmaidens inside the Beltway. Lie after lie has been foisted upon the public claiming that we’re “destroying the planet” by using fossil fuels (even that description is debateable) despite a yearly tsunami of new and ever more restrictive environmental regulations. Even after the hoax of man-made global warming was revealed, politicians continued to pursue their misguided policies restricting our ability to generate energy as though nothing had happened.

I don’t need to tell you how rising fuel prices will kill our economy. You’ve already received a cut in pay over the last weeks, and this is just the beginning. Remember back to 2008 and how high gas prices rippled throughout the economy, raising the price of just about everything we make and consume.

Now, as a thought experiment, try imagining what it would be like if we had mature, responsible, and thoughtful leadership in Washington. We’d be drilling and refining our own oil today. Oil would be far less expensive, well under the $100/barrel we’re seeing today. Jobs would be created here, wealth would be created here. More Americans would have more buying power. World oil prices would fluctuate much less and political unrest in faraway lands would have less of an impact here at home. We'd have the money to effectively research viable alternative sources of energy that actually work.

Kind of like how it used to be.

OK, back to the real world, where logic, nor common sense, nor the laws of physics, nor concern for the nation can penetrate The Wall. Expect more empty words from this administration, more counter-intuitive ideas, more belief in the fairy tale of mankinds destruction of the planet. Expect more of what got us into this mess instead of a concrete, proven plan to get us out of it.

Such is the power of The Wall.

Here's Real Progress - Rep. Lewis Pledges to Strip EPA Funds

This is what we voted for.

You may have noticed a trend in recent years. Unelected bureaucrats have steadily increased their power far beyond the original intent of their positions until we have entire departments of our government pursuing a radical agenda that directly opposes the best interests of the nation.

I speak specifically of the Environmental Protection Agency. The same agency that is currently responsible for the needless agricultural shutdown of the former cornucopia of California's Central Valley because of an insignificant bait fish. This action, along with many others that defy common sense, are responsible for the inability to utilize our God-given resources to benefit the country and its people.

Our own government is working against us. How has this happened?

In a way, we only have ourselves to blame. We haven't done our duty in informing ourselves about the goings-on in Washington, busy as we are working and raising our families. We trusted unscrupulous politicians to act in our stead, politicians who said one thing on the campaign trail and then did something completely different when they were elected to office. It only took us two generations before we caught on to the deception, but when we did, we managed to begin the process of removing said lying pols, most noticeably in this most recent election.

Now the work begins for those we elected. We sent an unmistakable message to the "progressives" in Washington that their vision for the country of an ever-increasing federal intrusion into our lives was about to stop.

Case in point: California Representative Jerry Lewis has vowed to strip funding for the EPA. Granted, he's grandstanding just a bit in a bid to chair the House Appropriations Committee. But it appears that his heart is in the right place and that he heard the peoples' message to Washington loudly and clearly on November 2. Specifically, he's looking to stop the agency from circumventing Congress, and us, by imposing many of the provisions of the failed Cap-and-Trade energy tax. The EPA has indicated that it intends to start regulating greenhouse gases in January, thus bypassing Congress and the will of the people who are starting to fully recognize the harm this agency is doing to our national interests.

This is good news. We're starting to get our own government back under control. We should expect no less than a responsive government that's able to handle the problems of modern life in a mature and knowledgeable way while still advancing the national interests, in this case the need for cheap energy.

There are far too many radical environmentalists (many in high places) who mistakenly think that we must roll back our dependence on so-called "fossil fuels" because of an erroneous theory that has yet to be proven. These people want us to pursue some fantastical new "green technology" that is supposed to reduce our dependence on foreign oil in the name of the now-discredited "man-made global warming" theory.

Notice how these ecological fanatics ignore the one proven technology that could provide us with inexpensive energy with very little pollution - nuclear power. There is a reason that we haven't built a new nuclear plant in over thirty years and it's the radical environmentalists (and their lawyer enablers) who have constructed the legal and regulatory roadblocks. All made possible by a couple of badly written and horribly executed federal laws.

This entire environmental charade is based on a lie. And we know it.

We should be thankful that the ClimateGate emails were finally brought to light, curiously, no thanks to WikiLeaks. As an aside, if Julian Assange were so interested in bringing truth to the masses and uncovering corruption, why wasn't he instrumental in making those emails public? Huh, Julian? Where were you when you could have done the planet a real favor by uncovering a massive hoax, one that has cost us untold trillions of dollars for no reason other than a crisis manufactured for political purposes?

I'm digressing again. Sorry.

Representative Lewis is to be applauded for his intention to defund the EPA. This should be merely the beginning of the dismantling of Washington bureaus who are standing in the way of America's greatness by prohibiting the utilization of our natural resources. Granted, we should be judicious in our use of these resources and not return to the excesses that created the need for an EPA in the first place. No one wants to see rivers on fire again. But we've learned a lot and corrected our mistakes, something that radical environmentalists refuse to acknowledge.

We can and should be harvesting the things Given to us in a responsible way.

Kudos to Representative Lewis. Don't stop now.

We're Free At Last

The revelation of Climategate, that the scientists in charge of climate research have engaged in dishonest behavior and sought to manipulate data in order to perpetrate a worldwide hoax, is the best news to come along in many years. In the coming months, as the evidence is examined and the full extent of the deceit is uncovered, the world will come to several conclusions. First and foremost will be that many needless rules and regulations will be wiped from the books.

However, the best news is there is no excuse for us not to drill for oil, to build refineries and nuclear plants. We can return to using any light bulb we wish. California can no longer dictate what kind of televisions their citizens can purchase. We can abandon inefficient and expensive substitutes for aerosol can propellants and automotive air conditioner refrigerants. We can rescue our automotive industry by declaring a moratorium on new pollution requirements for several years.

The standard of living in third world countries can be improved at a faster rate, lifting more people out of poverty. The energy required for basic human needs such as clean water will now be much less expensive and therefore more widely available. There are many other benefits and they're all good. This might be just what we need to lift us out of our current economic recession.

Common sense instead of fantasy will be restored to government. OK, maybe not, but it's a start.

We also have a litmus test for anyone running for public office: "Do you believe in climate change?" If the answer is yes, especially in light of evidence that we've been lied to for many years by those once trusted to seek out scientific truth, then that person is disqualified from office, just as they should have been even before now.

The more we think of how pervasive this issue is, the happier we should be.

We are no longer held hostage by a myth.
