More than any other cultural artifact, the PC movement dictates what can or can’t be said, and what the nature of truth is. How is it possible that a small group of elites, originally hailing from Germany, of Marxist conviction, have been allowed to dictate the outline of polite discourse for the last few decades? In fact, the PC movement is a hoax obscured under a false definition of civility. In fact, PC is the very opposite of civility, being a tyranny against free expression, driven by a Marxist cultural jihad, meant to extinguish the right of conservatives to express their beliefs, or mount principled dissent against leftism.

Capitalism, the Superior Societal System

This article should get your week off to a positive start. From the Conservative Daily News comes this full-throated defense of the free market entitled Capitalism, the Superior Societal System.

When someone performs labor, they have transferred a part of themselves into that which they have done. The task has become intertwined with their very soul. Same with someone who creates a product, that endeavour also is a part of them. This, I believe is the inherent reason that wherever and whenever socialism or communism is experimented with, it always fails. It is because the economic system of socialism punishes the producer and rewards the mooch. It steals the very soul of man. When a person lays their hand to the plow, they do it to better their socio-economic status, not for their health. They do it for their family. This is why the recent remarks made by President Obama about small business owner’s hit such a sour note. “If you have a business, you didn’t build that, someone else made that happen.” The election that we happen upon will be a decision solely won or lost on who we think will do a better job of pulling the American economy out of the ditch. Capitalism vs. socialism. The difference's, couldn’t be further apart. Our politicians are attempting to mix the two, and have. However, I suggest they are not compatible with one another. One steals from one party, and distributes the stolen money to those without the morality to know that they should refuse to take the money. One, lets the party who earned the money to keep the fruits of their labor, and spend it accordingly to their will. They do not mix as philosophies.

If I might expand this concept: Capitalism provides a necessary psychological outlet. Instead of channeling energy towards aggression (and, let's face it, history has many demonstrations of mankind's inhumanity to man), capitalism redirects this energy (through self-interest) into action, goods, and services that benefit others.

In other words, work is good for you. It's a healthy outlet that has a beneficial side-effect. If the Twentieth Century taught us anything, it's that if man is free, his natural curiosity and drive will result in positive consequences for others. The 1900's saw the largest aggregate improvement in the condition of people worldwide than at any other time in history. A quick perusal of technological advancements and inventions show an explosion of creativity previously unknown. The car, home appliances, computers, television and radio all became common household objects, saving us time and money which we could spend with friends and loved ones.

On could conclude (if one chose to look at it from a certain prospective) that technology brought the human race closer together.

Technology that was brought to market (and into your home) thanks to capitalism.

And freedom.

Today, capitalism is under assault from deviants who abhor freedom. This minority sees freedom in action and they reflexively strive to stop it by any means necessary. Jealous, they are confronted by their own inadequacy and seek to compensate for their personal failure by imposing their will (through lies and deceit) over the lives of others instead of themselves. Covetous, these people seek equal outcomes of misery for all in the name of "fairness," not equal opportunity for success. They point to any individual failure and condemn the entire system.

They ignore a basic truth: Life Isn't Fair. It never has been, and likely never will be. But once this truism is accepted (as intellectually mature people do), then the real work of being your own person can begin. Your inner drive can direct you without the soul-crushing pressure of laws and regulations that are typical of failed forms of governments that have followed socialist doctrine. You will impose fairness upon yourself.

In short, capitalism works, but only when combined with freedom.

Alinsky Ethics - Mobsters, Murder and Mayhem

Here's an interesting post over at Breitbart.com (aren't they all?) that sheds some light on the teachings of one Saul Alinsky, the guy who dedicated his book Rules for Radicals to the devil; The Community Organizer-in-Chief, Part One: The Alinsky Ethics.

This is important because our current president and his Secretary of State Hillary Clinton are both admirers of Alinsky. What this means is that they are enemies of America. What this means-means is they hate the American way of life, Americans, and me and you.

Just so you know.

Because of the Fourth Estate Fail, it’s incumbent on conservative activists and citizen journalists to do the job of explaining to voters the truth about Barack Obama. This article is the first in a series that uses Kurtz’s Spreading The Wealth as a jumping off point to lay out in stark detail how President Obama has practiced distinct brand of Chicago-style politics has had implications for every aspect of his policy, from Obamacare to the housing crisis.

The plain truth is that President Barack Obama has operated in a manner completely consistent with his political roots as an Alinsky-style community organizer. That simple assessment is accurate but useless as an explanation. Most voters have no idea who Saul Alinsky was or even what being a "community organizer" means. Ironically, this ignorance is especially acute among liberals.

Ignorance yourself no more. That's part of why you, gentle reader, are here. To digest the subtle nuances and overtones of American Politics, to ask questions and to probe the soft underbelly of the political beast, but only while it's asleep.

Now, where was I? Oh, yeah, Saul Alinsky. If you click on the link that says Rules for Radicals, you'll read about this for yourself. Understand whilst reading this that you're reading a manual for overthrowing our government, you little subversive you. Shame.

In it, you'll also discover many of the secrets that those on the left don't want you to know, like hiding your numbers. That's Rule Number One. After you've digested all the Rules (and it may take a few readings), you'll come to recognize many of the tactics in use by the leftards today, most notably the MSM.

This first Rule is really important, because there's a tendency to align with others, primarily due to the "coolness factor" of an idea or a candidate. You want to be one of the "cool kids," don't you? Sure you do. Here's all you gotta do; say this, believe this and vote for this guy.

Everybody's Doing It.

This is how we got into the mess we're in today, by voting for the "cool guy." High school class presidents are elected this way. President's shouldn't be. Nor should anyone who wields power of any sort. The biggest thing about understanding politics is that you're literally playing with fire. When the fire is under your control, all is well. Let the fire get out of control, and well, you could get burned.

And we've been very badly immolated. But we've made stupid decisions before, and we'll probably make a few more before it's all over. It's What We Do, especially when it comes to presidents: Obama, Carter, Johnson, Wilson. Crap, now that I think about it, we're not doing too well at all when it comes to picking our presidents.

Oh well. It's vitally important that we educate ourselves and learn as much as we can about the person we're electing. While we're all unique, we should be looking to elect people who have as much in common with us as possible. Check out their record, if they have one. How do they vote if they have a record. Anything questionable there? If you have any doubts, then do some more research. If you're reading this, then you already have the keys to the world's largest library.

Use it.

The Socialist Mask of Marxism and Modern American Democrats

Given the noticeable and disturbing turn to the left that our federal government has taken recently, it's no wonder that more attention is now being paid to the rise of foreign elements (Socialism, Marxism, and Communism) within the American Democrat Party. Representative Alan West opened the discussion by calling Progressives what they really are: Communists.

If you missed it (and you really shouldn't have), Breitbart's Joel Pollack recently revealed Barack Obama'a membership in the radical-left New Party. That should make you pause and think for a bit about your future, your family's future and the future of your country.

Do you wish to live in slavery to your government?

Do you like not having any money?

Do you enjoy being told what to eat and what to buy?

Does it bother you that today's youth are so misinformed about the real world, so much so that our world educational rankings are falling precipitously? That they can't spell, can't perform simple arithmetic and don't possess critical thinking skills to prepare them for adult life?

All of these sad facts are the result of enemy action.


Maybe you're one of the lucky few who haven't been negatively affected by the destructive policies of this current administration and the truly bad laws and regulations that have been put in place by the leftist politicians who preceded them. I don't see how, but that's entirely possible.

There is a reason why all these negative things are happening to us. It's part of a not-so-secret plan to destroy us from within. I've made it a point to let all fourteen of you know this, so you can prepare and fight these forces with your voice and your vote. Indeed, knowledge is power. You can't fight what you can't see.

I certainly hope you don't think that "it can't happen here." It is happening here, right before our very eyes. But you don't have to take my word for it: you can hear it from someone who has been on the other side of freedom.

I'd like to introduce you to a fellow named Lt. General Ion Mihai Pacepa. His history as the highest-ranking official ever to have defected from the former Soviet bloc gives him a unique insight into the inner workings of socialism. He sees the same things happening in America today as I do.

His recent column over at PJ Media is your reading assignment for today. In The Socialist Mask of Marxism, he lays out the beginnings of installing a Marxist/Socialist/Communist government here in clear defiance of our Constitution.

Although we now live in an age of technology, we still do not have an instrument that can scientifically measure to what extent the Communist endorsement of the Democratic Party influenced the results of the 2008 election. Scared yet? To quote that great philosopher/warrior Yoda, "You will be."

In November, the United States will indeed face one of the most important elections in its history. On the surface, the voters will decide which of our two main political parties will control the White House and the U.S. Congress. In fact, the voters will chose between keeping the country the leader of the Free World, or allowing the United States to be further infected by the virus of Marxism.

Choose wisely. For yourself, for your family, and for your country.

I won't give it away except to counsel you to keep an open mind about the host. He's fairly controversial in some circles, but I consider him something of a modern-day prophet. Understand that I mean the word "prophet" in the original, Biblical meaning of the term as "one who speaks out," not someone who can see the future.

Lord Monckton Gets It Right - Environmentalism is the New Face of Communism

Good Monday morning, y'all.

I had originally planned to ask a question of you today. Consider it a bit of mental homework if you will: Why doesn't anyone ask "Why?" these days?

It seems that intellectual curiosity is on the wane. Far too many otherwise intelligent people lack this one vital part of their thinking process. The Ancient Thinkers had this quality, and for a long while, their teachings of this timeless question were always present in our modern society. Indeed, I would propose that our modern societies were built upon the answers to their intellectual curiosity.

However, this recognition of ageless truths seems to be in decline for reasons I have yet to fathom. Our educational system relies less and less on teaching children how to learn and tends to focus instead on whatever socially popular theories are currently floating about. The emphasis appears to me to be misplaced: hard truth, that which has remained constant throughout our recorded history, is discarded in favor of consensus.

Nowhere is this more evident than in science classes. Studies of the laws of physics has been displaced in recent years with what I'd call "consensus science." In this strange, new discipline, long-held accurate descriptions of the world around us and the various physical laws that guide it take a back seat to a form of crowdsourcing wherein an organized group of scientists are paid to agree on an erroneous, yet-to-be-proven theory, and this is promoted as a fact.

I'm old enough to remember what was called the "Scientific Method" of research. It was and remains basic and easy to grasp: the first step was to observe a phenomenon, the second step was to experiment based upon the results of the observation to test the validity of the observation to see if the results could be duplicated. Simple enough.

However, there is a trend these days to forward outrageous theories that not so long ago would have gotten you laughed out of the bar. If you said that the human race had the capability of affecting the climate of the whole planet, you would have rightly been considered on the edge of sanity. Yet, this preposterous idea is the foundation for a worldwide movement today called "environmentalism."

Granted, it has taken us a while to begin to question this premise, but question it we have. And those of us who have dared to question something that we know innately to be false have been excoriated, denigrated, and called any and every name you can think of. That this is so proves that those who are advancing this hoax is proof enough that their entire movement is bullshit.

But I digress. I'd almost forgotten how to do that.

In this unholy marriage of "science" and politics, the environmental movement has become the shiny new face of an ancient enemy, Totalitarianism (or Communism or Progressivism).  In the following video from Trevor Loudon's site, Lord Christopher Monkton examines this movement and its attempt to impose a One World Government on us in the name of Goddess Mother Earth. Entitled Lord Monkton on Agenda 21 and Environmental Marxism, it's well worth your time to view.

If Agenda 21 rings a bell, it's because I've written about it before here. I would recommend that you read that post and watch the accompanying video if you're unfamiliar with it.

Anyway, back to my original question. Here's a video of someone who has the intellectual curiosity to ask "Why?" and the capacity to understand the answer.

Obama Chooses Marxist Slogan for his Campaign

Well, it's cool and hip and all that, especially if you're a leftard who likes to wear a Che Guevara t-shirt.

It's also a title that various leftard writers such as Marx and Engels have used for their propaganda newsletters through the years.

How can you possibly be against "Progress?" Don't you want to be thought of as cool and hip, especially by your neighbors, who are watching you to make sure you comply with all Party Diktats?

Further Proof That Everything Is Backwards - Freedom is Now a "Radical" Idea*

I guess when you've gone off the deep left end of the political spectrum, anything that resembles the Founding Principles would appear "radical" to you. There's so much wrong with E.J. Dionne's article over at the Washington Post that it deserves a good Fisking.

The Stoopid is strong with this one.

It turns out that there is at least one question on which Mitt Romney is not a flip-flopper: He has a utopian view of what an unfettered, lightly taxed market economy can achieve.

He would never put it this way, of course, but his approach looks forward by looking backward to the late 19th century, when government let market forces rip and a conservative Supreme Court swept aside as unconstitutional almost every effort to write rules for the economic game. This magical capitalism is the centerpiece of Romney’s campaign, and it may prove to be his undoing.

Magical capitalism, eh? Well, it did work wonders for us and the rest of the world, right up until this Magical Marxist administration got ahold of it.

But Romney, unlike Clinton, is not offering a program through which government would take specific steps to solve the problems he catalogues. Instead, he is calling on voters to share his faith that our difficulties would go away if the state simply got out of the way, allowed the market do its thing and counted on the success of the successful to lift up everyone else.

That's the way it works, E.J. You see, when capitalism is allowed to operate, this thing called "wealth" is created. Most people know this as "money." When government decides to stick its nose into the private sector to "solve specific problems," we wind up with the type of economy we have today: the new normal of 10% unemployment, stagnant GDP growth, record numbers of Americans living in poverty and requiring food stamps for the first time in their lives, just to name a few things.

But wait! There's more! Here comes the money shot. Brace yourself, Effie...

This is Romney’s true radicalism.

So, in the multi-colored, kaleidoscopic, unicorn-and-Skittle-powered view of Progressives like Dionne, freedom is now a radical idea. Well, I guess after years of imposing more and more restrictions on our economy, what was implied through governmental policy has now been spoken out loud.

E.J goes on to paint Romney's supporters as "The Other."

They may not like government very much, but they are also wary about what capitalism does when the watchdogs fall asleep.

No, we're not. We are wary when we see unelected, unaccountable bureaucrats over-regulating what was once a free market. To death.

They don’t cotton to further tax cuts for the wealthy. They reject the idea that worrying about how unequal the rewards in our society have become is the same thing as being “envious” of those who have done well.

We've seen just how un-rich you have to be to qualify as "wealthy," and we know that line starts just about the place where individual Americans decide to start their own small business. As for your heartfelt concern for "unequal rewards in our society," I politely call Bullshit. Just in case you haven't looked outside recently, E.J., life isn't fair. There have always been people with more or less than everybody else. Our system was originally constructed to provide an equal opportunity for all to succeed, not to guarantee equal outcomes, as you suggest. Equal outcomes, as we have seen during the past three years, means equal misery for all.

They are fully onboard that opportunity and not “entitlement” is the American way.

Yes, yes we are.

We've seen failure up close and personal. Most of us know at least one family member or friend who has lost their job, their home, their marriage, and their life to the Utopian fantasy of Socialism embodied in this administrations' policies. That is, if it hasn't already happened to us.

So there you have it, folks. It's official now, straight from the Progressive Pravda Media Machine in Washington: Freedom is now a radical concept.

Thanks for the heads up, E.J. We will all begin to act accordingly. The first thing we'll do is vote out each and every Communist/Progressive we can find and point out the massive, epic failure of you and people like you to impose your Socialist principles on us.

We aim to make the word "progressive" as  vile and disgusting a term as its goals for this country are.

Budget Battle BS

After watching and hearing the wrangling over the budget battle from afar, I’m not optimistic that conservatism will win this round. What I’ve heard and seen has been so far removed from reality that it’s starting to resemble a circus. Not that Washington politics has ever been rooted in reality, but this is getting ridiculous.

As a bullshitter par excellence myself, I must say I’ve never heard so many lies of commission and omission in my life.

Never.

Let’s start with a few facts, shall we? Our esteemed President’s favorite sport, right after golf, is blaming his predecessor George Bush for each and every little thing that’s currently wrong with our economy, from the debt, to inflation, skyrocketing gasoline prices, to post-nasal drip and painful rectal itch. It’s what he does.

Well, that may have worked for a while, but two and a half years into his term, that just doesn’t cut it anymore. One thing is very clear: Obama owns this economy, lock, stock, and rotting barrel.

I’ve been wanting to run this graph for a while, since everyone else in the blogosphere has. I know, me, Alabama, slow, etc.

We Who Follow These Things So You Don’t Have To know that Congress was taken over by the Democrats following the little fit the American voters had in 2006 when they tossed Republicans out in a grand display of displeasure with their spendthrift ways. They had controlled Congress and the White House and yet had failed to rein in spending.

Granted, we were in two wars, which always tend to be rather expensive affairs, but the economy was still roaring along. If you remember, the Mainstream Media looked upon any downturn in what we’d all gladly return to today as signs of the Coming Apocalypse. I’m sure y’all remember when the talking heads claimed DOOM! (Hi, Monty!) when the unemployment number figure rose a mortifying two tenths of one percentage point.

President Bush was an economic terrorist! Soon, dogs and cats would be sleeping together, there would be a river of evil slime running through New York sewers, oh, wait, that was a movie, never mind.

Still, I think today, everyone in the country would gladly go back in time to the days of essentially full employment and nonexistent inflation.

And just so everyone remembers, here are a few numbers from those days that the MSM said were so horrible: Unemployment was dreadfully high at 4.6% Gasoline was an unthinkable $2.25/gal. (Click on the History tab)

The horror.

As the chart above clearly shows, this debt crisis didn’t start until the Dems controlled Congress and Obama became President. Bush’s TARP was just the beginning of federal spending, soon to be followed by the Stimulus, a debacle of near-Biblical proportion that did a great deal to add to the deficit and nothing to solve our economic problems. Next up was ObamaCare, then the Dodd-Frank takeover of Wall Street, the bailouts of GM and Chrysler, Cash 4 Clunkers, the student loan takeover, an avalanche of new environmental regulations, Obama’s illegal oil drilling moratoriums in the Gulf, the list goes on. At the same time that the Pelosi-Reid Congress was spending the country into ruin, President Obama was busy putting the clamps on the private sector, resulting in the lowest amount of federal revenue since 1950.

My point is that the very same Democrats who got us into this mess are the ones currently striving with all their might to keep us in it.

One would think that Republicans would have a large cache of rhetorical ammunition in the way of facts to launch against the Dems in this battle, and one would be quite correct. But have they used any of it? No. They. Haven't.

Why this is is a wonderment to me, as I’m sure it is to you. Obama, Reid, and Pelosi clearly started this mess and are now blaming the Republicans for it. But, hey, it’s what they do. If you want just a taste of what the Dems are saying, you need look no further than this quote by DNC ChairThing, Debbie Wasserman-Schultz:

“Aren’t we at the point where the closer we get to chaos, the more concern that there should be about coming to the table and compromising with Democrats?” Wasserman Schultz asked. “This is not leadership. This is almost like dictatorship. I know they want to force the outcome that … their extremists would like to impose. But they are getting ready to spark panic and chaos, and they seem to be OK with that. And it’s just really disappointing, and potentially devastating.”

So, let me see if I have this straight: We’re the extremists for wanting Washington to act in a fiscally responsible way, just like we do in our lives? WTF? On what planet do you live, darlin’, where this makes any kind of sense?

Another thing, Debbie, your psychological projection is showing: it was President Obama who recently stated that he finds the idea of being a dictator “tempting” in a speech last week before the radical racist Mexican supremacist group La Raza.

I have a few questions for the GOP: why haven’t you called the Dems’ bluff yet? Why haven’t you guys used the word “obstructionist” to characterize the Senate Democrats repeated threats to squash any bill that comes out of the House? Or even used that term for the Presidents’ same threats? That’s a game anyone can play.

Why haven’t you pointed out that all this wild spending started when the Dems took over congress in 2007? And that Obama said it was only temporary? And that he also said he wanted to cut the deficit in half by the end of his first term in office? You could even use a little bit of snark by saying you only want to help him fulfill his promise.

What are you guys waiting for? You’re clearly losing the public relations battle and yet you seem stricken by Bush’s Disease: you refuse to defend yourself with even a few simple facts that a lot of Americans already know. Facts that would work in your favor if only you'd say them out loud. Facts that would expose the Dems for the tax-and-spend radicals that they are.

You guys could be winning this and enjoying a much-needed boost in your popularity, and yet you seem reluctant to do so. I mean, hell, if I can do it, certainly you can too. It’s not rocket surgery.

You guys can’t even defend the concept of a free market economy nor point out how this administration is twisting it into something unrecognizable. All you’re doing is giving ammunition to those who wildly claim that capitalism doesn’t work. How can it, under these circumstances, when those we’ve elected to act in our place don’t understand even the basics of how our economy is supposed to work and pat themselves on the back for placing mountains of restrictions on it?

Mr. Boehner, why don’t you realize that you will be attacked for anything you do or say? You might as well be criticized for stating the truth. Doing that will strike a chord with the nation. You could step up to the podium armed with facts, yet you refuse to do so.

You can be cordial and biting at the same time without appearing to be whatever it is that you’re trying to avoid. We know you’re trying to be the adult in the room and you’re almost there. Almost.

If you were to try to appeal to the vast majority of hard working Americans who understand what it will take to get the country out of the Obama Depression, you’d find your own and congressional Republicans’ poll numbers would start climbing, thereby preparing the ground for the 2012 elections, which the GOP stands poised to win.

Your reluctance to embrace a truly smaller government makes the rest of us who are rooting for you question whether you really want that or if you are just another big government bureaucrat in disguise. Please stop acting as if last November’s elections didn’t mean anything and that Congressional Republicans don’t have a clear mandate to stop this Marxist/Socialist administration from further crippling our country’s economy.

It’s up to you, Mr. Speaker. An anxious country is waiting for you to tell us the truth and counter the lies and propaganda coming from the radical, leftist Alinskyites who have infested Washington.

It’s time to get your own ass in line.

Olbermann Confirms It – Progressives Live in an Economic Disney World

Warning, the following post contains examples of progressive viewpoints concerning economics. It displays distortions, half-truths, misconceptions, and lies that may be dangerous to free markets if implemented. They are not trained professionals.

You don’t need to travel very far these days to know that the country is in dire straits. My little sojourn downtown was very revealing (see yesterday’s post below). I mean, I knew things were bad, just not this bad.

And the worst part is, we don’t need to suffer this way when there are proven solutions that have yet to even be attempted. Allow me to elaborate.

In the process of manufacturing, when bringing a new product to market, there is a predictable chain of events. First is the idea itself, which, when finalized, moves on to the pre-production stage where blueprints are drawn and methods are devised to make the product. When production begins, more details are needed to insure an orderly flow from raw material to finished article.

If, at any point in the process, there is an error, there’s a scramble to correct it. The successful business will keep these errors to a minimum by having the right people in place to be on guard for the inevitable mistakes. They happen and can’t be completely avoided. However, experience keeps their negative impact minimal, and the wise business will always know and allow for a certain amount of unpredictability during this process.

Occasionally, a problem will arise that catches everyone by surprise. Now, the sooner this problem is recognized, the sooner it can be corrected.

The point is that the sooner a mistake is caught and corrected, the less expensive it is.

Now, I’m speaking of the normal course of events. However, sometimes the concept itself is flawed and the product is a failure. Case in point; the Ford Edsel.

All of the steps that had worked previously to create autos were followed and were successful. Except the product itself did not sell well, and became an example of what not to do.

We’re at that point in our economy; it has been regulated and designed, blueprints drawn up, reviewed and approved, and we’re witnessing the very predictable result: failure.

Those in power in Washington for the last four years, namely the progressives in Congress led by Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid, have designed a product that the American public doesn’t want. Through their incessant imposition of new burdens and massive amounts of regulation, they’ve managed to design this grand failure of free market economics that we’re currently witnessing.

The failure of their efforts is on display everywhere you look. Empty storefronts, shuttered factories, and desolate cities stand as a mute testament to their efforts. What they have done needn’t have happened. American has been deceived, told one thing by campaigning politicians who did something else entirely once safely in office.

Their economic concept is flawed, yet they refuse to see their rather obvious mistakes. In one simple example, Keith Olbermann, spouts one of the lefts most recent economic misconceptions that the unemployed are the real job creators in America. Pajamas Media’s Alan Barton refutes this here. Do watch the whole thing.

Another of the progressive mantras (totally untrue in reality, again) is that conservatives don’t have a plan to get our economy back up and running again. We do have a plan, namely to reduce or eliminate governmental interference in the economy, but that would require those currently in office to give up their power to stifle the free market. This is why the Obama administration refuses to consider them. Witness the fight going on over keeping the Bush era tax rates.

For whatever reason, President Obama has done his best to avoid the proven methods for stimulating our economy. His entire premise is flawed, resulting in a cascade of incorrect outcomes, finally resulting in the worst economic downturn that any of us can remember. There are ways to get things going again, things like drilling for our own oil, but Obama has recently extended his unnecessary moratorium on drilling in our waters, thereby directly making our economy worse. If he were intent upon devastating our economy, would he be doing things any differently?

Finally, you’ll hear this latest lie: capitalism doesn’t work. Sorry, but that’s just plain bullshit. It’s taken years, but we’ve reached the point where governmental interference has distorted the markets so much that they’re almost incapable of operating. This is the ultimate irony, that politicians would declare capitalism a failure when it’s their actions that have caused the failure.

Our only hope at this time lies in the incoming Congress. If they heed the message that America sent this past November, they will start to reduce this size and scope of the federal government’s intrusion upon a formerly free market. They can begin by defunding the Environmental Protection Agency, the single heaviest weight currently holding our economy down. If they do as they promised, an agency-wide reevaluation of Washington’s regulatory impact would go a long way towards cutting government down to a manageable size and to start working for the people of the country.

It’s time for us to quit apologizing for capitalism, as David Limbaugh points out. At the same time, we have a lot of work to do to get Washington out of the way and let us get back on the road to prosperity once again.

It took time to get us here, it will take time to solve our problems. We can start by purging politicians who boasts of their progressivism. Their ilk is the source of our problems, their concepts are seriously flawed. Get them back to the fringes of society and keep them there.

Random Observations on a Monday

I had a chance to visit downtown this past Friday evening. I hadn’t been there in a while, preferring instead to conserve finances. I found that I’m not alone in that desire.

Downtown was a literal ghost town compared to three years ago.

Back then, the sidewalks were full of mostly youngsters sporting the latest in fashion, real or imagined. Music blared from every other door, most of it from live bands. Wide-eyed tourists, eager for a taste of the real nightlife asked for recommendations, where are the best bands/drinks/food. The local constabulary was in constant view lest the human cauldron overheat and begin to spill over into the night. Despite signs prohibiting cruising, it was the place to cruise, with ridiculously expensive vehicles pawing the pavement at speeds they were never designed for. All of us out for a good time, to see and be seen.

Not this weekend.

Having lived here for over twenty years, I’ve learned this city’s rhythm. Once, there was literally no difference in traffic: it was horrible all the time. You were as likely to encounter a traffic jam at 2:30 am as you were at 2:30 pm. Now, even on a Friday night, the roads are nearly empty. As soon as rush hour concludes, traffic subsides dramatically. The city becomes yours.

Which is fine, if you’re an introvert.

America’s party is over.

Was it that long ago that we’d find an excuse to go out on a Thursday evening? In these parts, you’d hear the rumblings of motorcycles as they headed to their favorite watering hole for bike night, the preamble to a weekends’ revelry, to warm up the old liver.

If there’s one thing that the Obama Depression has done, it’s stopped our partying.

I also had the opportunity to talk to a friend of mine who owns a bar last week. She was near tears wondering if the bar she recently bought could make it through these times. Although I tried to give her some encouragement, I’m not sure I succeeded. Times are tough all over.

Many of my friends have noticed the same thing. They all mention the same haunting phrase, “I’ve never seen anything like this before.” Indeed, this is the longest and worse economic downturn that many who are younger than I am have ever witnessed. I remember other recessions, but because I worked in manufacturing, I always had a job. The demand for the hardware of modern life wasn’t as prone to the natural fluctuations of a capitalistic economy. People still needed cars, and TV’s, and computers, and dishwashers, and the odds of everyone running out of money at once were remote.

However, this is a different time. While I can’t speak for the rest of the country, it appears for all the world as though nearly everyone down here is out of money. One can easily picture an old western with tumbleweeds blowing down a deserted street.

This doesn’t need to happen.

There are reasons for everything. Not to get too philosophical, but there are economic laws and principles that just can’t be ignored. When we do (and by “we,” I mean our national leaders), we do it at our peril. Moreover, when we ignore those laws and principles, we create unnecessary misery and suffering. We’ve ignored them by proxy, by electing leaders who have no understanding of our economic system.

In a strange turn of the tale, we’ve been taken advantage of by our own trusting nature. We’ve trusted our leaders to have the same sort of values and principles that we hold in our hearts. We’ve assumed that those we’ve sent to Washington to act in our place wanted the same things that we wanted for our families.

We’ve been fooled.

As I’ve pointed out previously, we have in place today a ruling elite whose value system is not the same as ours. We value honesty, integrity, truthfulness, empathy, straightforwardness, and an ability to understand reality and deal with it in a mature way.

They, obviously, don’t.

I’m somewhat optimistic that things began to change for the better in last month’s midterm elections. American’s aren’t used to imposed and structured decline. How we managed to elect to the highest office a guy who thinks America’s best days are behind her and that she should retire while still in her prime is a mystery for the ages.

Why waste a perfectly good country?

We still have in place the framework for greatness. We still have the infrastructure with which to elevate ourselves and the world, to reduce poverty and disease, to find new medical treatments and cures, to add to the quality and quantity of our short time here on God’s Earth. All that is missing is leaders who want that for everyone, who will abandon their insane lust for power that infests the halls of our Capitol.

We need to recapture the essence of our country and restore the soul of America.

I have every confidence that we will.

Dems Flunk Econ 101

The reaction by the left to President Obama’s deal to extend the Bush tax cuts has been predictably bad. His base is sorely disappointed that he didn’t fight to increase taxes and their posts prove it. Another thing they prove is that those on the left are economic illiterates.

I am amazed by the comments in forums about Obama maintaining our current tax rates and extending UE benefits for another 13 months. Check them out here and here. The level of misunderstanding of basic economics is astounding.

In our free market economy, each new mandate is a burden on business. It imposes a cost on the business that the average employee never sees, but is paid anyway. Yet this basic economic law is lost on them. Also lost on them are the basics of wealth generation. Check out this quote from none other than Nancy Pelosi concerning the impact of unemployment benefits:

"...Unemployment insurance returns $2 to the economy for every $1 spent," said Pelosi last week. "This is money that is needed by families to buy necessities, to heat their homes... and immediately injects demand into the economy, creating jobs."

Now, I’m not sure where to start on her statement other than to say that every word of it is wrong, including the “and’s” and “the’s.”

How can she dictate national economic policy correctly if she fails to understand the basics of a free market economy? Oh, wait, our current unemployment rate of 9.8% is proof enough that she doesn’t know what she’s doing. Remarkably so, this woman is allegedly worth a great deal of money.

There are some on the right who aren’t too up on economic theory, either. Check out this comment from Foxnews.com’s Bradley Blakeman concerning the debate over Obama’s recent deal to keep our current tax rates:

“Republicans believe that the way to get people back to work is by incentivizing the private sector not penalizing them and paying citizens to be idle and unproductive.”

“Republicans believe?” We’re not talking beliefs here. We’re talking about economic laws and what happens under a repressive structure of government that is openly hostile to the creation of wealth.

Washington is the main reason our economy is in the sorry shape it's in today. Too many rules, regulations, and high tax rates have finally caught up to us, resulting in the closest thing to a depression that most of us have witnessed in our lifetime. There is a root cause for our current situation: the Community Reinvestment Act. This single piece of legislation forced banks to make loans to those who were bad credit risks and could not otherwise afford a home. Under the penalty of law, banks started losing money, which they attempted to bundle into other financial packages to offset this new federal requirement. And it worked for a while, right up until the presidential election of 2008. That’s when the excrement struck the air-moving device and our economy tumbled into the deepest recession in modern American history. We’re still in it because of the economic ignorance of those we’ve managed to elect to high office in Washington.

We can't keep putting restrictions on the "evil rich" and expect to maintain our economic power, it's that simple. Yet, we keep on voting for economically illiterate politicians who know nothing about how our free market economy works. In addition, those same politicians cater to their left-wing base, which insists upon punishing those in society that provide us with the money to maintain our way of life. The same way of life that is the envy of the world, the same way of life that has people from far away lining up to become Americans.

If we want to keep our good paying jobs, we need to start electing pols with real-world experience. There is a reason why we're suffering needlessly under Obamanomics: he and his advisors have no experience in the business world and have never run a business. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt for a while, but their continued insistence upon more and more federal intrusion into our daily lives is hurting our ability to do business and generate wealth.

Also, don't buy into the class warfare that the Dems are always spouting. It takes a certain type of psychosis for a rich person in Congress to divide Americans along economic lines. Don't you want to be rich someday too?
